My favorite travel program, "Globe Trekker," was covering Sweden and Denmark the other day and Megan the host talked to a dude who invented his own country within a country, Ladonia. It has 12,000 citizens and is currently at war with Sweden.
The creator is the artist Lars Vilks who erected the two sculptures and protested the Swedish government telling him to take them down. To ensure that Sweden would not succeed, Vilks created his own country. On "Globe Trekker," Vilks simply stated that this was how countries were always formed, through war and decisions.
Also the coolest treehouse/climbable sculpture in existence.
